Central Broward Regional Park Cricket Stadium, Lauderhill all set to host New Zealand-West Indies Twenty20s
New Zealand and West Indies will play two Twenty20 internationals in Florida in June-July at the start of Blackcaps’ full-fledge tour of Caribbean.
The fixtures are due to be staged at the Central Broward Regional Park Cricket Stadium at Lauderhill, near Miami on June 30 and July 1. The stadium is the only ICC-approved cricket venue in North America.
This will be only the second occasion that two Test playing nations will come head-to-head in Florida. Earlier, Sri Lanka and New Zealand had played a two-match bilateral series in May 2010.
David White, the New Zealand Cricket chief executive, expressed the hope that staging of matches in Lauderhill would boost the sport’s profile in the USA.
“Playing matches in Florida is great for the profile of cricket, as Cricket Holdings America works towards forming a professional Twenty20 league,” he said. “I think the West Indies Cricket Board should be commended for the hard work that has gone into scheduling the matches.”
After Twenty20 internationals New Zealand will head to West Indies for two Tests and five one-day internationals in July-August.
